Earthquake Sunday 8/24/2014

Today is Monday and we usually hear from Mitchy today.  There was a large earthquake on Sunday in Ayacucho where Mitch is currently serving.  This missionary mom couldn't wait for him to get to a computer so Ryan called the mission home.  They let us know that Elder Dial had just been there and he is totally ok and that he is a great missionary.  We still have not heard from him but we are so happy that he is not hurt.  Here are a couple of articles about it....

ABC News

Large 6.9 Earthquake Reported in Central Peru

A large 6.9-magnitude earthquake has struck a sparsely populated area of central Peru, the U.S. Geological Survey said Sunday.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, said Mario Casareto, spokesman for Peru's fire agency. He said authorities were still surveying the region, including the Ayacucho area where the quake was centered.
The seismological service initially reported the magnitude as 7, but revised it downward to 6.9 in a subsequent report. According to the survey's updated figures, the quake occurred at 2321GMT Sunday and was centered about 43 kilometers (27 miles) east-northeast of an area called Tambo, and about 467 kilometers (290 miles) southeast of the capital of Lima. It had a depth of 101 kilometers (62.8 miles), the survey said.
Local media said that the quake was felt in parts of Lima and in many major cities of southeastern Peru, including Cuzco and Arequipa.

(CNN) -- A strong earthquake struck southern Peru on Sunday evening, injuring at least two people and damaging buildings, authorities said.
A house was destroyed and 19 other buildings were damaged, including a hospital, Peru's Emergency Operations Center said.
The 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit a mountainous area 43 kilometers (27 miles) east-northeast of Tambo at a depth of 101 kilometers (63 miles), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The USGS revised down the quake's strength from the magnitude of 7.0 that it initially reported, as well as adjusting its data on the location and depth of the epicenter.
The damaged buildings included 14 houses, three schools and a church, according to authorities.
The emergency center also reported minor landslides in two areas.

Why hello momma. How are you doing? I am doing pretty good.  This past week we had a spiritual experience. We taught a member and her husband is less active. We talked about faith with miracles. I told her that all of us wait for miracles. Sometimes people think it is the other way around,  But we need to show our faith and the miracles are just a confirmation to faith. It was good.  Every page I read in the book of Mormon , I kneel down and pray. I know I have a ton of weaknesses. But I just need to repent and keep going.

Okay. I love you momma. Thank you for everything. I gotta go. I LOVE YOU!!!!! Thank you so much (: Talk to you next week!

It is good to hear that everything is going good and that there are lots of animals. I would have hit the bull. (: Are they bugling or not yet? Things are going good here. The missionary work has been rough in finding new investigators. We are talking to all the families we can in the streets. We are going to have a baptism this week which is good. Thanks for everything paps and for your example to me. Love you paps.

This week’s lesson….Faith precedes the miracle!

I had to sleep on the ground a couple of nights because the bed broke and I fell in the middle of the night a couple nights ago. haha

Hey momma! This past week we ended up finding 4 new investigators. My companion and I are doing really well. We get along really well.
This week was good. President ended up coming and he helped me out a lot. His talk was on the atonement. And after the day we ate with him and we talked.
This week we are trying to talk to as many families as we can in the streets. Which is good! We are trying to find families to teach.
Well mom. I gotta go. I love you so much. thank you for everything. You dont need to worry about me. I am doing good and I am very grateful for Jesus Christ. I love you!
This week's lesson... Always look to the light...

Hey mom how are you doing? I am doing good. Today I am pretty sick. I ended up going to Lima again. The temple was good. We ended up putting another person with a date which is good. We taught 12 lessons this past week. We had a good lesson with a less active family. I shared alma 36 with them.

Chapter 36

Alma testifies to Helaman of his conversion after seeing an angel—He suffered the pains of a damned soul; he called upon the name of Jesus, and was then born of God—Sweet joy filled his soul—He saw concourses of angels praising God—Many converts have tasted and seen as he has tasted and seen. About 74 B.C.

That was a really good lesson that we ended up having. Yes, that was probably my favorite lesson this past week.
It is a good area, Ya I like it! There are not very many members that live in our area which is tough. But it is good. Well mom. I gotta go. I love you. Thank you for everything!!!!!!!

This week's lesson.... true conversion tastes SWEET! It is available to all those who ask...
